The Sanctuary Stained Glass Windows
The Biblical Windows
The twelve vertical rectangular windows on each side of the main floor of the
sanctuary are made up of two sets of six, each measuring 2'-0" x 8'-8".
The North set of six windows depicts scenes from the Old Testament beginning with
the Creation; the windows depicting the New Testament themes are on the South
wall.
The space between each window was too large to create a "wall" of stained
glass using an unbroken design. However, a design element was created in order
to tie each window together with a common theme movement that emphasizes the center
portion of each window wall. By treating each window with a half circle top, the
side arches were lowered respectively to create a flowing arch within the six
windows. The diamonds within the arch reflect the shape of the large, central
East window over the choir.
The arches and individual windows are held together by the use of a geometric
design in the background. The glass is hand blown "antique" that features
individual characteristics unlike that of machine-made glass. Each piece of glass
highlights bubbles and striations that refract light uniquely. The glass has a
variation of thickness, therefore where the glass is thicker it is darker.
