Peru Mission 2010

In late February, a six member team from our church – Michelle Aubrey, Don Bryant, Sandy Bryant, Sherry Driscoll, Gail Scott, and Debbie Whitley – made our sixth visit to Peru.

We worked at the Miramar United Methodist Church converting space into a dormitory for students who attend the recently reopened United Methodist seminary in Lima.  We painted, installed tile in the dining room and kitchen and new plumbing in the bathrooms, hauled sand and crushed rock, and connected a new water line to the building.  Once again, our congregation supported this important outreach ministry by their donations.  We also received a grant from the Wesley Heritage Foundation.

On Sunday, we traveled out to the Jose Olaya United Methodist Church, located in a shanty town on the outskirts of Lima.  There we painted two classrooms and led a workshop for the children of the congregation.  This church was built over a five year period by donations from  members of our church and grants from the North Carolina Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Future mission teams have much work left to be completed at the Miramar United Methodist Church.  Approximately $9000 will finish the sanctuary, classrooms, and parsonage at Jose Olaya.  Is God calling you to this ministry?  If so, contact Sandy Bryant, 281-3041 for further information.
